How Do We Know the Bible
is the Inspired Word of God?
How do we know the Bible is the inspired Word of God? Could it be because it tells of amazing facts like a donkey speaking to a man or how the sun stood still for an entire day? Imagine Peter walking on water, or Moses parting the red sea so the people could cross to the other side.
Maybe it's because the Bible is scientifically accurate, and it teaches amazing things.
In the book of Job 26:7, Scripture tells us: "He spreads out the northern [skies] over empty space; he suspends the earth over nothing." We learn the Bible tells of creation, where God formed everything out of nothing. We read how God made man, brought a flood, handed us His commandments, and gave us His Son, Jesus.
The Bible does not teach that we are by chance, or that morals and values are up to each individual. God's Word is consistent and does not teach compromise, or that we go through life doing things that just make us feel good.
The Bible itself makes claim to being the inspired Word of God, "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness" (2 Timothy 3:16).
The Bible claims to be without error, authoritative, sufficient to meet all of our spiritual needs and it does not defend itself. It merely states truth asking us to examine ourselves with its message.
And so inspiration tells us that God is the author of the Bible, using writers to communicate to us.
We can also know the Bible is the inspired Word of God because of messianic prophecies foretelling Jesus Christ hundreds of years prior, telling of His virgin birth and how He would be rejected.
Psalm 22 prophesies the crucifixion of Jesus. This text was written about 1000 years before Jesus was born and it came to pass! This gives way to the divine, a purpose, revealing a God who is the Creator.
Even archaeology supports the accuracy of the Bible from ancient ruins to cities mentioned in Scripture.
The Word of God has power. Hebrews 4:12 says, "For the word of God is living and active. . ." It has power to reveal a sovereign God. The Bible exposes our need for a Savior, as we contemplate its words and look at our own hearts.
The Bible was written to prepare the way for a Messiah who would die for our sins. The Bible is an open invitation for mankind to come to Jesus, so we can find love, purpose, redemption, and a relationship with Jesus Christ.
