Forum for Teachers on Peace to be held in Kenya

BACKGROUNDER
TEACHERS FOR PEACE IN KENYA
The Nairobi County Director of Education, Mrs Mary T. Omondi, will open a two day forum on Teachers’ empowerment for social transformation. One hundred and fifty teachers from Nairobi County will attend the training led by Pastor Joseph O. Obwanda, author of Becoming Your Excellency, on 28 & 29 August 2012, at the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA), Nairobi from 9am to 4pm (on both days). The theme of the forum is: Empowerment for V.A.T. (Value Adding Teachers).
The forum, the first of its kind, will empower teachers to impart values of conscience, character and community upon their students. The forum is being held under the auspices of Heshimika Excellency Initiative, a personal development programme that seeks to empower individuals and institutions with a strong sense of authentic personal identity, personal responsibility, humandignity, integrity, professional and occupational competency so as to bring about recognisable, respectable and sustainable social transformation.    The HESHIMIKA Excellency Initiative targets the education, public, corporate, religious and civil society sectors.
In 2008, Kenya faced one of the toughest times in its history, during the post-election violence period. It is with this experience in mind, that the HEHIMIKA Excellency Initiative seeks to empower Kenyans in personal character development and inter-community interactions. HEHIMIKA seeks to fulfil the prayer in our national anthem Kenya istahili heshima (... the glory of Kenya) by empowering teachers to help raise more dignified Kenyans working together with a unity of purpose.
The HESHIMIKA Excellency Initiative is a flagship programme of ExcelWise Ventures, led by Joseph O. Obwanda (B.Th. Hons) as its Chief Excellency Officer (CEO) and lead Excellency coach. He is the proponent of the philosophy of personal Excellency. He has over twenty years of experience in public speaking as an inspirational, motivational and instructional communicator, both locally and internationally. He has a compelling message for Excellency of expression to individuals and institutions.
