Veteran Media Personality Maunda buried


Veteran media personality and musician in Kenya Jacob William Maunda who died on August 17 was buried at his home in Makueni County on Wednesday, August 29.

His burial was attended by among others his boss who is also the Chairman of the Royal Media Services and Media Mogul in Kenya Mr.S.K.Macharia, family, friends, relatives and colleagues among them ace broadcaster Fred Obachi Machoka.

He was a songwriter and labeled himself as soloist international. He was 62 years old by the time of his death. 

He once worked at the state run media Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) with the likes of other veterans like Leonard Mambo Mbotela, Khamis Themor, Khadijah Ali Mohamed Juma Njuguna, the late Anne Ofula, John Obongo Junior and Anunda Sakwa among others.

He retired in 2001 from the station at the age of 50 to concentrate fully on music.

Maunder also had a short stint as a lecturer at the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication ( KIMC) in 2004, before quitting to join Mbaitu FM, a Kamba vernacular radio station. He was to leave the station for yet another Kamba station, Musyi FM - a vernacular radio station of Royal Media Services, as senior news anchor, editor and head of news department.”

He claimed that music to him was equal to journalism. Through music, he was able to communicate to society in the same manner he did as a journalist.

 Meanwhile veteran Politician credited among others who helped in the restoration of multi-party democracy in Kenya the late Martin Joseph Shikuku who died recently will be buried at his home in Western Kenya on Saturday,September 01.
