Mathare United go down fighting in Arusha

By Fred Maingi our Nairobi reporter
Simba  sports club of Tanzania registered a resounding statement with
a  comprehensive 2-1 win over visiting Mathare United in a thrilling
friendly match staged on Sunday at the Sheikh Amri Abeid Stadium in
Arusha.
After a barren first half,Simba took the lead on 58th minute
through new signing Daniel Akuffo who headed brilliantly a sumptuous
cross from Maftah Amir to beat Mathare custodian Martin Musalia.
Mathare however shifted their gears with sporadic raids that
yielded with the equalizer in the 63rd minute. In a desperate bid to
clear Francis Ouma’s burst,Simba’s Juma Nyoso curled the ball to his
own net past second choice  custodian Wilbert Mwita.
Cheered by their home fans.Simba restored parity when Kigi Makasi
scored the match winner in the 78th minute from the spot after a
Mathare defender brought down Selemani Uhuru in the danger zone.
Simba used the friendly match to gauge their new signings  who
included Kenya’s Pascal Ochieng and former AFC Leopards midfielder
Salim Kinje.
Other new  players in their stable include Felix Sunzu,Abdallah
Juma, and Komabil Keita from Mali among others.
While Mathare United have no engagement this week,Simba who are
camping in Arusha used the match to shape up ahead of their crucial
Community Shield clash against last seasons Tanzanian mainland league
runners-up Azam FC.The match is set for September 8 in Dar es salaam
before paving way for the new League season that resumes on September
15.
