Know your MPS: Mombasa County

Mombasa County is the home to Kenya`s second biggest City (Mombasa) and has an area of 218.9 Square Kilometers. It is also a major trading center and home to Kenya`s only large seaport. Mombasa has an International Airport and also a major tourist destination in Kenya.
The county has four constituencies namely: Mvita, Kisauni, Changamwe and Likoni with 17 locations and 30 sub-Locations.

1.Mvita
Former Mvita MP Mr. Najib Balala is the current MP for Mvita, he was born on 20th September 1967 in the port city of Mombasa. Endowed with a local primary education from Serani Boys, a national secondary experience from Kakamega High and an international education background in Business Administration, International Urban Management and Leadership from the University of Toronto and the John F Kennedy School of Government at Harvard, Balala is well versed in Kiswahili, English and Arabic and has a taste for the arts, culture and an avid fan of football as a sport.

Married with three children, Balala has grown up, lived and worked in the port city of Mombasa all his life. His life has been one of continuous effort, striving against tremendous odds in an unbridled search for excellence.

2.Kisauni
Born on January 01,1973 Ali Hassan Joho who is also an Assistant Minister for Transport in recent cabinet mini-reshuffle effected by two Principals in the coalition Government. Is the Member of Parliament representing Mvita Constituency.

He is regarded as having performed well in his constituency by his constituents but in Parliament he is said to have only fought fought to redeem his image when he was linked to drugs business in Kenya and talked little about his constituency.

3.Changamwe Constituency
Ramadhan Seif Kajembe is the MP for Changamwe on an Orange Democratic Party (ODM). He was born on June 03,1944 and attended Buxton Primary School between 1952-1959 before proceeding to Muinda Memorial College in Uganda for O-level certificate.
Between 1986 and 1987 Kajembe who is also current Assistant Minister for Environment enrolled at Bandari College training for a Diploma in shipping and went to European Business school in Cambridge where he undertook a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration.
He between 1963 and 1983 worked as a Clerk at Kenya Ports Authority (KPA)

4.Likoni
Mwalimu Masoud Mwahima who is the MP for Likoni came to the limelight after capturing the Shika Adabu civic ward over 15 years ago. After a shaky start in education, the self-made Mwahima went to a driving school in Mombasa to train as a heavy commercial trucks driver. He is in his late 60’s.Mwahima, who is a former Mayor of Mombasa, was a driver at the Bamburi Portland Cement factory for several years. Then he became a housing agent company manager.
He contested for the Shika Adabu civic seat for the first time in 1982 and lost. His second attempt in 1987 was successful. He has never lost since then. Mwahima sat for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examination (KCSE) as a private candidate in 2001 but according to Education officials at the Coast he failed.
His constituent have rated him as a poor performer and has almost never spoken in the Kenyan Parliament since he became an MP save on the day of swearing in only.
