Contrary to conventional swimming competitions where contestants chase the finish line, Synchronised Swimming,
incorporates highly coordinated gymnastics in water accompanied by music as exhibited by these photos taken at London 2012 Olympic Games, London, Britain, Aug. 6,
2012. The competition requires great flexibility, artistry, endurance, as well as accurate timing and breath control while under the water. However, unlike other dance events
where men and women dance together, the Olympic Syncronised Swimming competition is strictly for ladies. Marks are scored based on artistic and technical merit on a scale
of 100, with artistic abilities worth 50% of the total score. The competition is currently in progress in London. (Photos: Xinhua/Chen Jianli)
