PrimeMinister of Kenya salutes new Somali President

PM Raila Odinga

Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga has  joined other world leaders in congratulating Somalia’s new President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud saying his election is an indication the country is ready to break with the past.
Mr Odinga said Mohamud’s decisive election gives him a powerful mandate for peace and rebuilding his country.
He said Kenya is ready to officer Somalia any required help towards achieving peace.
“Every step toward peace and development by Somalia will meet our outstretched hands of support. Let me pay particular tribute to all peace-keepers, among them so many noble Kenyans who laid their lives in a foreign land for the sake if a better tomorrow for Somalis,” said the PM.
He added with the election of Mohamud al-shabaab militants should recognize that using arms as the means for acceding to power is truly over.
The PM told the militants to renounce violence and join new democratic and truly inclusive enterprise that is poised to take a great leap forward for all Somalis.
“The Somalis are a remarkably resilient and enterprising people as has been evidence in their extraordinary economic success and enterprise amidst sectarianism, war and lawlessness.”
The PM spoke in his Nairobi office when he addressed a press conference.
Mohamud was elected on Monday by Somali MPs from different clans in the country.
