BANGUI, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- The leader of the Ugandan rebel group, the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA), Joseph Kony, is currently living in Vakaga prefecture, in the north-eastern parts of the Central African Republic, near the border with Sudan, a well placed source has said.
The Ugandan colonel Milton Katarinyebwa, who is leading the fight against LRA in the south-eastern region of Haut-Mbomou, on Tuesday revealed the information, quoting a young girl who had been abducted in 2010 by LRA but who managed to escape in September.
According to the testimony from the young girl, there are about 10 different groups of Kony's men who are spread in the Central African Republic, especially in the south-east and now in the north-east regions.
"They are spread in groups of about 30 to 100 men who are under the command of Okelo Johnson, Okot Odhiambo and the third commander is called Kivola," she explained.
About two weeks ago, the U.S. military advisers based at Obo in the south-east parts of the Central African Republic, launched an anti-Kony campaign by putting the photos of Kony and his lieutenants on the billboards. The idea was to enable the population to identify them and alert the army incase they are seen in the region.
Since 2011, the U.S. military advisers were deployed in the south-east parts of the Central African Republic to support the country's army together with that from Uganda in the fight against LRA.
The African Union on its part has formed a regional force with 5,000 soldiers from the four affected countries of Uganda, the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) and South Sudan, to help neutralize the rebel group.
Joseph Kony and his principle lieutenants have been pursued since 2005 by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for committing crimes against humanity. (Xinhua)
