Englishman Stewart John Hall arrived in Nairobi on Tuesday morning to
take charge of the former Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions in yet
another addition of foreign coaches trooping into the local league.
Hall parted ways with top Tanzanian club Azam one month ago despite
helping the side reach the final of the regional club championships
held in Tanzania.
He was received at Nairobi's Jomo Kenyatta International
Airport(JKIA) on tuesday morning by Sofapaka FC president Elly
Kalekwa,Club Chief Executive officer(CEO) Jimmy Amboje among other
officials.He has signed a one year contract.He will be unveiled to
the playing unit anytime ahead of wednesday's September 12 mid-week
League clash against defending Champions Tusker.
Kalekwa confirmed they have agreed terms with the new man and
remains confident that he can help them achieve their goals this
season.
“He has achieved quite a lot elsewhere and we believe that can be
repeated here,” said Kalekwa.
Hall was the most successful coach at Azam despite in his short stint.
Apart from helping them reach the final of the regional club
championships, the club also won the Mapinduzi Cup champions and
managed second position in the local league.
With this performance, Azam for the first time managed to threaten the
dominance of Simba and Yanga, two of Tanzania’s most successful and
popular clubs.
Prior to coming to Africa, Hall handled was a director at Birmingham
and also handled Pune in the Indian league.
He first came to Africa in 2010 and was employed as coach of Zanzibar
national team but left immediately after over contractual disputes.
Hall becomes the third foreign coach handling a KPL side. The other
two are, Gor Mahia’s Zradvko Logarusic and Jaan Koops of AFC Leopards.
He replaces Salim Ali who was fired three weeks ago after a series of
poor results.
Foreign coaches are suddenly finding interest in Kenyan football and
with Harambee Stars having hired Frenchman Henri Michel the trend is
expected to continue.
