Tanzania’s Simba Sports club came from behind to scramble a 1-1 draw
with visiting Sony Sugar in a thrilling International friendly match
staged on Sunday at the Sheikh Amri Abeid Stadium in Arusha,.
An own goal after 22 minutes by Simba’s Malian defender Komabil
Keita saw the visitors take an early lead.Keita who was signed few
weeks ago was unable to contain speedy Sony winger Samuel Onyango and
in a desperate bid to clear the ball, he found himself tucking the
ball in his own net past top Keeper Juma Kaseja.
Earlier in the fifth minute, Simba’s new signing Mrisho Ngassa
breezed past several Sony defenders but he blasted over the bar with
Sony Keeper Collins Odour well beaten.
The Kenyans however came close to extending their lead on 34th
minute but Marwa Chamberi’s effort after beating Amir Maftah was saved
by former AFC Leopards and Rangers FC defender Pascal Ochieng from
crossing the line...Sony led 1-0 before the breather.
The home team cheered by their roaring fans gasped in
disappointment when they were reduced to 10 men in the 78th
minute.Referee Judith Gamba send off Uhuru Selemani for a hard tackle
on Vincent Ogutu of Sony Sugar.
Simba who beat another Kenyan side Mathare United 2-1 a fortnight
ago at the same venue leveled the score on 60th minute when Ghanaian
striker Daniel Akuffor headed home Kapambe Shomari’s cross that set
in a sigh of relief to the home fans.
